Longwoods Road Conservation Area is hosting a Native Plants Workshop. It begins with an indoor presentation about local native plants, invasive species and biodiversity. Then discover spring birds and wildflowers on a guided spring hike to our native gardens and along the beautiful nature trails. Cameras are welcome! Meet at the Resource Centre. Wear comfortable outdoor clothing and hiking shoes. $4 per vehicle general park admission at the Pay and Display machine at entrance of the park. Coin or credit card only. Display ticket on your dash.
Once established, native plants provide great seasonal beauty and require little care and maintenance such as watering, fertilizer, pesticides or herbicides. They promote biodiversity by providing natural seed-banks and food and habitat benefits to wildlife. Native plants are non-invasive and do not damage our native habitat. Longwoods has five native gardens with over 25 different native plant species as part of the Carey Carolinian Arboretum and Trail. Native plant gardening is easy and rewarding!
Heighten your senses and enjoy the sights and sounds of spring on a hike. Bring along your camera to capture the spring birds such as Rose-breasted Grosbeaks and Northern Orioles and wildflowers like Skunk Cabbage, Blood Root and many more along the way!
Longwoods Road Conservation Area is located at 8348 Longwoods Road (Middlesex Road 2) 6.5 km west of Delaware or 10 km east of Melbourne, southwest of Mount Brydges. (30 minutes west of London, 60 minutes east of Chatham.
