Retirement Announcement: Don Hector Steps Down from Chatham-Kent & Lambton Children’s Water Festival Leadership

A group of volunteers hold up a Water Festival banner.Chatham-Kent & Lambton, ON – March 5, 2024 – After 18 years of dedicated service, Don Hector has announced his retirement from his position as the leader of the Chatham-Kent & Lambton Children’s Water Festival. Over that time period over 25,000 elementary and high school students have experienced the festival. Don’s passion, commitment, and tireless efforts have been instrumental in shaping the festival into the celebrated event it is today. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Don for his unwavering dedication and wish him nothing but the best in his well-deserved retirement, filled with successful fishing adventures.

As we bid farewell to Don, we also embrace an exciting new chapter for the Water Festival and invite individuals to join us in continuing this important community tradition. We are seeking dedicated volunteers to help organize and run the festival, ensuring its continued success for years to come.

Volunteer Roles Available:

  1. Committee Lead: Supported by the Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority and St. Clair Region Conservation Authority staff, the Committee Lead will oversee the organization and execution of the event. Responsibilities include fundraising, volunteer coordination, and overall event management.
  2. Committee Members: Collaborating closely with the Committee Lead, members will contribute to decision-making processes and assist in various aspects of organizing and executing the Water Festival.

Volunteer Commitment:

  • Meetings will be held at an office convenient to the committee.
  • Anticipate one meeting per month, with a two-month break following the event.
  • Volunteers can expect to attend approximately 10 meetings per year.

Whether you have experience in event planning or simply a passion for supporting educational initiatives, we welcome individuals from all backgrounds to join us.
