Longwoods Heritage Weekend April 30-May 1 – “Listen, Watch, Taste, Smell – Experience Life of 1812!”

April 12, 2016

Experience history being brought back to life as the Upper Thames Military Re-enactment Society ‘Royal Scots’ present the 26th Annual Longwoods Heritage Days on Saturday, April 30 and Sunday, May 1st, 2016.  Step back in time to 1814 as British troops attack American invaders.  Hear the crack of the musket and the roar of the cannon.  Come and experience life in the early 19th century.  See the colourful clothing, and smell the food prepared over open fires. Let us entertain your family for the day.  Admission:  $8.00 for adults.  Elementary school students and members of the military and cadets in uniform free.

 

Saturday

10:00       Gates Open to Public

10:30       Battlefield Drill                                                                                  Battlefield

Watch the British practice the typical battle field manoeuvres of the early 1800’s.

12:00       Native War Council                                                                          Merchant Village

British Officers meet with native leaders in an effort to get their support in the coming battle.

1:30          Duel                                                                                                         Merchant Village

Watch as two gentlemen settle their differences in a rather deadly manner.

2:30         Battle Re-enactment                                                                          Battlefield

                  American and British troops meet on the field of battle. Who will be victorious?

3:30         Mini-Militia                                                                                            Battlefield

Children will be issued equipment and trained in the drill of the day.

6:00         Gates Close

 

Sunday

10:00       Gates Open to Public

11:00       Battlefield Drill                                                                                     Battlefield

Watch as infantry units compete.

                  American and British troops meet on the field of battle. Who will be victorious?

3:30         Mini-Militia                                                                                               Battlefield

Children will be issued equipment and trained in the drill of the day.

4:30         Gates Close

 

The Longwoods Heritage Weekend will be held at Longwoods Road Conservation Area, 8348 Longwoods Road (Middlesex Road 2) southwest of Mount Brydges.  The event is 6.5 km west of Delaware and 10 km east of Melbourne. Traveling on Hwy. 402 from London or Sarnia, exit at interchange 86 and follow the signs to Longwoods Road Conservation Area / Ska-Nah-Doht  Village.  From Windsor on Hwy. 401, exit at interchange 157 and travel north to Longwoods Road. Take Longwoods Road east to the Longwoods Road Conservation Area.
