You are invited to the Ska-Doht Museum Revitalization Recognition Event on the evening of Wednesday, September 23, 2026! That evening we hope to gather our community for a recognition event for the opening of the new Indigenous Community Learning Centre and Revitalization of the Ska-Nah-Doht Museum. During the September 23^rd event we will share an opening, remarks, refreshments, and presentations. An opportunity to explore the revitalized museum, take part in hands-on activities, and mingle will follow. During the event we will be joined by a number of special guests, including:

Kristi White, author of The Adventures of Jay and Gizmo, a fun, inclusive, nurturing, and culturally responsive programs for all children. Kristi is a proud Haudenosaunee woman, and member of the Oneida Nation of the Thames. Her focus is on Indigenous language and culture revitalization, and an awakening in boys literacy.
As a mother and grandmother, Kristi has spent many years guiding the establishment and implementation of programs for families and children based around healthy living, healthy relationships, literacy and cultural appropriate content and has worked alongside and consulted with numerous agency’s across Canada. Kristi creates a story with books that open the hearts and minds of children from all walks of life, inspiring them to read deeper, search further, and explore their own creative gifts. Taking inspiration from Indigenous cultures, she focuses on themes that encourage independence of spirit, enthusiasm for learning, and acceptance of other languages and cultures traditions. This mama bear is also a family and disability activist, co-founder of Hoops for Hope, board member and Indigenous program coordinator for Voice of Men 360 and a proud International Woman’s Day Award recipient (2022). Kristi has travelled across Turtle Island with her family who each have their own unique diversity issues with their stories and teachings. She and her family are very culturally and socially active in their communities and participate in many events and ceremonies.

Refreshments provided by Chef Katsi’tsyo Tawnya Brant. Tawnya was raised and currently reside on the Six Nations of the Grand River Territory, located in southern Ontario. She is a Kanyen’kehá:ka (Mohawk) woman and Tekarihoken Turtle clan. Her goal is share her journey with Indigenous food and her work in the Indigenous food sovereignty movement. Chef Tawnya Brant is the owner of Yawekon Foods. Yawekon” in the Mohawk language means “it tastes good!” Her culinary journey has since taken her to places she hadn’t even dreamed of.  She was a competitor on Season 10 of Top Chef Canada on the Food Network; and now hosts “One Dish One Spoon”, on APTN.
