Community Trees Initiative

Sponserd in part by Union Gas

Community Tree Initiative is a partnership-based, multi-year forestry program to assist with the education of the Secondary School curriculum and to enhance environmental quality. This program is a series of events designed to educate and inform students, while enhancing public spaces with Native Carolinian Plant Species.

The Municipality of Chatham-Kent Horticulture Department has donated a greenhouse facility and agreed to provide in-kind maintenance and utilities. 12,000 seedlings are grown and then planted in the Lower Thames watershed. Areas include public and private lands or along gateways to the towns of Chatham-Kent. Community Trees initiative influences the broader community, combats wind erosion, purifies air, and provides a base for cooridor linkages.
