Come and celebrate the harvest season!  Crafts, great food, and entertainment make this event fun for the whole family.

Event runs from noon until 4:00 pm, rain or shine!

Archaeology Day
at Longwoods Road Conservation Area

Time: 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.


Cost: Included in regular park admission - $3.00 for adults, $2.00 for youth aged 6-17 and free for children under 6 years of age.

Get the point!... then bring it out to Archaeology Day and learn more about our local heritage! 

The public will have a chance to bring out their artifacts. This year, Ontario Archaeological Society (OAS) Chapter members, Jim Keron and Dr. Chris Ellis of the University of Western Ontario, will be on hand to tell you more about your treasures.

Spend a day in the park...step into the past! Challenge your friends to traditional Native games. There will be guided tours of Ska-Nah-Doht Village. Bring a picnic lunch and have an afternoon of fun for the entire family. Find out why we received the Attractions Canada Award 2002 for 'Developed Outdoor Site'!

Summer Stargazing Party

at Longwoods Road Conservation Area

 

Join us at Longwoods Road Conservation Area for a “Summer Stargazing Party”.  This all ages, evening event will look into the world of Astronomy.

 

Arrive early at 7:30 p.m. 

 

Admission is $5.00 for Adults, $3.00 for Youth 6-17 and Under 6 is Free.  Please leave your pets at home and bring a flashlight and a lawn chair.

 

Members of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada (RASC) London Centre http://www.astro.uwo.ca/~rasc will be on hand to share their knowledge and answer questions related to Astronomy.  The “Party” begins at 7:30 p.m. with a Star Story, binocular instruction and display viewing.  RASC members will deliver a special presentation at 8:00 p.m. followed by an observation session.  Experience the fascination of looking up into the heavens through home built and commercial telescopes supplied by the members of RASC.  Observe stars, constellations and planets of the solar system. 

 

The RASC is an organization consisting of people with diverse backgrounds but all with a common interest in Astronomy.  Their monthly meetings afford anyone interested a wonderful opportunity to discuss recent solar system activities and to hear guest speakers covering many aspects of Astronomy including astro-photography, telescope building, etc.  Special events like the one at Longwoods Road Conservation Area are part of their commitment to Astronomy education and public outreach initiatives to London and surrounding communities.

20th Annual 'Battle of Longwoods' Heritage Weekend

at Longwoods Road Conservation Area

 

Skirmish at Longwoods

 

Experience history being brought back to life as the Upper Thames Military Reenactment Society present the 20th Annual Battle of Longwoods Heritage Days, held at the Longwoods Road Conservation Area.

Step back in time to 1814 as British troops attack American invaders. Hear the crack of the musket and the roar of the cannon. Come and experience life in the early 19th century. See the colourful clothing, smell the food prepared over open fires. Let us entertain your family for the day.  Walk across a time bridge where re-enactors will greet you with first person and time appropriate interaction.

General Admission: $6 for Adults; Elementary school students FREE!.

All Day Events:    Shopping with Sutlers (period merchants)

                            Food, fun and interaction with soldiers and camp followers!

Sarnia and London: Travelling on Hwy 402, exit at interchange 86 (Longwoods Road). Follow Middlesex County Road 2 (Longwoods Road) West for 5km. Entrance is on your right.

Windsor: Travelling East on Hwy 401, exit at interchange 157 and travel North to Middlesex County Road 2 (Longwoods Road). From Melbourne, travel East for 10km. Entrance is on your left.

Spring Nature Hike

at Longwoods Road Conservation Area 

 

Bring the family to discover the beauty and allure of spring in the woodlands! 

Cost: $15.00 for adults, $5.00 for youth aged 6-17 and free for children under 6 years of age.  Pre-registration is mandatory.

Enjoy a 1 1/2 hour guided hike through the forest searching for early flowers, animal signs, and the trees and shrubs that enhance our existence!  Topics will include common wildflower/tree/shrub/wildlife species of our area, how and why plants have adapted to flower so early, the roles early bloomers play in the forest ecosystem, and the interactions that occur within the forest ecosystem.

This program will be presented by an experienced LTVCA Biologist/Nature Interpreter who will share interesting facts and address any questions participants may have during the spring woodland walk. 

Gather at 2 p.m. in the main parking lot at Longwoods Road Conservation Area.  Bring your binoculars to view the spring birds in our forest however, binoculars will be available to borrow for the hike.  Don’t forget to dress appropriately for the weather and wear comfortable walking shoes.  No dogs will be permitted at the event.

Moonlight Winter Family Hike

at Longwoods Road Conservation Area

Moonlight Winter Family Hike

Owls are the focus of the annual Moonlight Winter Family Hike event at Longwoods Road Conservation Area. Join us in February 2009 for an extraordinary evening hosted by the Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority in partnership with the Lower Thames Valley Conservation Foundation. Young and old alike will enjoy the many activities offered both inside the Resource Centre and outdoors. Admission for this fun-filled event is $10.00 for adults, $5.00 for youth 6-17, and children under 6 are free.

In the light of the moon, enjoy a 30-minute guided hike through the forest search of owls. Hikes start at the Resource Centre at 6:15, 7:00, 7:45 and 8:30pm. Due to the popularity of this event, pre-registration for your specified hike time is necessary for all participants (children and adults) as there is a limit of just 30 people per hike. A bonfire will also be blazing outdoors to warm up by and hot dogs will be roasted for the kids to enjoy.

Come before your scheduled hike time or stay later to take part in various activities inside the Resource Centre.

  • At 6:30, 7:30 or 8:30, attend a special presentation by Lynn Eves and her feathered friends from the Bluewater Centre for Raptor Rehabilitation. She will teach you about our local owls, and the important role they play in the environment.

  • See wonderful creations and demonstrations of wildlife woodcarving.

  • Enjoy some homemade chili and a hot drink.

  • Make a craft.

  • Watch an owl video.

  • View Resource Centre displays.

  • Investigate an owl pellet.

In an effort to cut down on the waste produced by this event, please bring your own bowls, mugs and spoons so that you can enjoy some homemade chili, a fresh roll and a hot beverage.

Don’t forget to dress appropriately for the weather!  In addition, dogs and/or cross-country skis will not be permitted on the hike.
